Jean-Marie Durand and Emmanuel Lemieux have written a book, which presents an overview of the main ideas, which have been discussed in 2013, focussing their attention towards the intellectual debate in France. The book is clear and well written, but somewhat depressing. It seems that the main subjects discussed in 2013 are the feeling of being abandoned, money, grubbing-up, bashing, burn-out, buzz, dissuasion, guns, war, distrust, melancholy, obsolescence, loosers, pop thinking, procrastination, prostitution, solitude, suburbia. Even more positive concepts such as "equal marriage to all", transhumanism, makers, generation Y are disputed. Lucidity is a quality. Still, the present lack of hope and vision for the future is most disturbing. Therefore, we can only wish that new strong and clear ideas wille emerge in 2014. Still, there is still no sign that this will be really the case.
